Something to Do is a 9th episode of Pee-Wee's Playhouse season 5.

Episode Plot[]

Pee-wee sings the name song again. He plays connect-the-dots with just two dots. He makes a skateboard. Then, he reveals that today's secret word is "do". Everyone can't decide what they want to do afterwards (other than scream to the Secret Word all day), so Pee-wee wishes for something to do. Jambi grants the final wish of the series, which is a to-do list on an ancient paper scroll. The list includes drawing a picture, blowing up a balloon, dressing up as a pirate, listening to a musical guest, taking a walk with Miss Yvonne (around the Playhouse rather than outside), and even Pee-wee cleaning his room beforehand.

Characters[]

Trivia[]

  • Miss Yvonne visits.
  • When Pee-wee obtains the secret word from Conky, he says, ""You all know what happens whenever anyone says the secret word, right?" instead of "You all know what to do..." to avoid saying the secret word ("do").
  • However, in The Restaurant, Herman says "For the rest of the day..." when the secret word was "day" and no one screamed.
  • Last time there was connect-the-dots and a wish.
    • Last appearance and acknowledgment of Jambi.
  • Last regular appearance of Roosevelt.
  • The musical guest segment was merely a film of French singer Danyel Gérard's performance of "Youpi Ya Tamoure".
  • When Pee-wee cleans up his room, a sped-up version of Mozart's "Rondo alla turca" is heard.
  • The Name Song was first used in the episode Reba Eats and Pterri Runs, but was cut in later airings and the 2004 DVD re-releases. It can be guessed that Paul Reubens knew this ahead of time, and decided to do the scene again in this episode.
  • Miss Yvonne and Pee-wee serenade each other (lip-syncing to a recording of "By a Waterfall" by Harry Warren and Al Dubin, first introduced in the 1933 Warner Brothers musical film Footlight Parade) in this episode, which is their second-to-final act of "ship tease" in the series.
  • Pee-wee does the balloon blowing routine again in the 2010 The Pee-wee Herman Show on Broadway and in the 2016 Netflix film, Pee-wee's Big Holiday.

Notes[]

  • Secret word: do
  • Connect-the-dots: skateboard
  • Snack: none
  • Wish: The To-do List
  • This episode does not feature a cartoon, though Pee-wee mentions it.
  • This episode features the final time Pee-wee plays Connect-the-Dots with Magic Screen.
